Esports Federation of Nigeria Announces Strategic Initiatives to Strengthen Esports Development Nationwide

Abuja, Nigeria – 11/20/2025 — The Esports Federation of Nigeria (EFN), the officially recognized national governing body for competitive gaming in Nigeria, has announced a series of strategic programs designed to accelerate the growth of Esports across the country and position Nigeria as a leading digital sports powerhouse in Africa.

Operating under the oversight of the National Sports Commission, EFN is implementing new structures for regulation, athlete development, national competitions, international representation, and community engagement. These initiatives aim to nurture emerging talent, boost digital literacy, and create opportunities for Nigerian gamers to compete at global levels.

Speaking on the new direction, EFN President, Yahaya Maikori, emphasized the federation’s commitment to building a modern, inclusive Esports ecosystem.

“Our goal is to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s gaming population and provide platforms where young people can excel globally while gaining valuable digital skills. Esports is not just entertainment—it is innovation, education, and economic empowerment.”

The new programs include the National Esports Championship, the Team Nigeria Esports Program, the Schools & University Esports League, and nationwide training for referees, broadcasters, and tournament officials. EFN is also expanding partnerships with technology companies, game publishers, educational institutions, and corporate sponsors seeking to engage Nigeria’s massive youth audience.

 

Vice President Clinton Agbor added:

“Nigeria is home to some of the most talented gamers on the continent. With the right support systems, structure, and training, we will dominate African Esports and gain prominence on the global stage.”

Secretary General Anikwushe Evelyn reiterated EFN’s commitment to inclusivity, announcing dedicated programs for women in Esports and grassroots communities across all regions.

The federation invites players, teams, schools, gaming hubs, and sponsors to join its mission to advance digital sports in Nigeria.
